So, you know how I told you a few hours ago I was going to the archives with Manabu? [He leans against the table as he watches Kazuma cook.] He reached back out and it's...well. Uh. We're going on a date?
[He sounds unsure, but excited? It's a strange combination as he falls into silence for a moment. Then he places his head into his hands and groans.]
[The first question gets little more than a hum of acknowledgement, Kazuma's focus solely being on not screwing up their dinner. Not that he has before. Not spectacularly so, at any rate.
The second though. The second earns a momentary pause, a tensing of his shoulders--] A date. Certainly took him long enough...
[Honestly, he had figured as much. May have considered teasing Ryunosuke enough to make him come to realization himself but--No matter for the buts and what-ifs. He sounds excited.
Until the panic sets in. Kazuma chuckles, turning off the stove and getting their meager meal set on the table.] What is there to worry about? You were excited a moment ago. It's a date, Ryuu. Have fun and it will be fine.
You knew?! [He groans again, lifting himself off the table so food could be placed in the spot he occupied. He rubs at his face, peeking out between his fingers before he sets his hands (see: nearly slams) onto the sides of the table.] Of course you knew.
I don't know what to do on a date! I've never been asked before. [Frankly, he was asked if Kazuma was free for date back in university.] Have you?
[He's going to panic slightly over this now that it's confirmed, but hopefully not enough to affect the date tomorrow.]
He told me, in his own way. [ Meaning Manabu had sweated it out just enough in front of Kazuma for him to guess at it. That had been a conversation.]
Knowing you, you've been on plenty without realizing they were dates. [Sir. La Carneval is not exactly casual dining.] I haven't been on anything formally called a date, no.
But the fact stands that you have little reason to panic. You both get on well enough and enjoy each other's company, so you have all that's necessary to facilitate a decent time.
[he's polite enough to announce himself, but not polite enough to wait: shoes are off and he's heading in the apartment. Magnet pads ahead of him to sniff out a target.]
More weird stuff's going on... You should see Diluc! He's, he's a full on lizard! Like a big one...human-sized.
I guess, but it was still a-- a, a-AAAAAAAAAAAUGH!
[Manabu doubletakes and recoils viscerally, nearly tripping over his own feet before his back hits a wall behind him.
Magnet...has no such reaction, because omens read the event posts on the ooc comm. this is fine, hi friend! mind sparing a few pets for the good dog??]
[it's a bit past 1AM at the Roost and the final patron has stumbled their way out the door; Manabu sends Magnet along with them to ensure they get to a lantern safely (you never know what's lurking out there in the dark), himself putting up the 'CLOSED' sign in the window.]
Can you put up the chairs and stools? I'll sweep up the floor from there.
[When Kazuma had agreed to this, he expected late hours. He had simply forgotten just how late that could mean some nights. Not that he complained--it wasn't as though sleep was something he saw to with any regularity.
The request earns a soft noise of acknowledgment and a nod. The thing is, Kazuma is...well efficient is a word for it. The stools are put up with little fanfare, but the chairs--he's lifting more than one at once. The quicker it's done, the sooner they can head home.]
What's left then--after the chairs and sweeping up? [Said as he's balancing a couple of chairs on top of one another in one arm, moving them back to their table from where patrons had dragged them throughout the night.]
[Manabu's learned to run on smaller spurts of sleep - between night shifts every other day here and morning duty at the Outpost on the opposite days, he finds time. more importantly, he finds time for the people who matter in his life. present, chair-stacking company included. given the rattling from mere days ago, vanishing into work isn't something he'd feel right in doing... baby steps!
he goes behind the bar to find a clean rag to wipe the bartop off when the question's posed.]
Aa, just putting away the clean glasses Jun washed an-- [he double-takes and loses his train of thought when absently glancing Kazuma's way leads to gawking. it was first at the outlandish chair stacking trick, but then--
Mm? And what? [The sudden drop in what Manabu was saying quickly catches his attention. Manabu is given a few spare seconds to possibly recover (or continue to gawk) as Kazuma divests himself of the chairs to give him his full attention.]
[it's not like Kazuma lied in saying they had enough mushrooms, but it wasn't until Manabu opened a cupboard and found it was nothing but jars full that Manabu truly believed.
maybe he did go overboard in stockpiling...]
Well. I mean, this would be the first place I went to make sure was full, eheh... And, and I guess I can just take these to the Outpost. [guards and builders will never have enough out there, given how close to corruption and monsters they are.
so Manabu just kind of sighs haplessly at the big satchel he'd brought still sitting on Kazuma and Ryunosuke's kitchen table.]
Okay. You were right. [Kazuma is allowed to be right once.] I'll take them with me when I head out.
[ If Kazuma is anything, he's amused. And a little bit enamored. While the stockpile of mushrooms was frustrating on the day-to-day, it was rather sweet that cared to make sure they had more than enough to get by.]
I did try to warn you. [It's said with a small chuckle as he moves into Manabu's space--and if excuses were needed, well, the kitchen wasn't that big.] Maybe keep some around the Roost...just in case?
[Manabu has his back turned while his space is being encroached, so when he turns to grab the jar he had meant to stow away, he gets himself a face full of clavicle and chin.
blinkblink. huhwhatnow?]
Ouh, we-well, there's already some there. Just in case. Yeah. [he's just gonna...reach over Kazuma's shoulder to pick that jar up.] You guys weren't my first stop today, you know...
[can i help you?? sir?? you're making the hair fluff.]

BEEP BEEP
Hey! Your door's unlocked, so I'm coming in!

[Oh do tell, Manabu. Kazuma has been a bit harder to find since his recovery--and subsequent transformation.]
I'm sure [Was that a hiss on the start of that word?] it could be worse.
[And he would know, considering he literally slithers out into the apartment proper.
SNAKE SNAKE SNAKE.]

I couldn't sleep so I went to the Roost.
I'll be staying here until the morning.
Sorry, I should have woken you up to tell you.

I woke when you left I think.I've been up since.
I worried you might get hurt.
You could have died.
Should I assume you may be bringing Manabu with you?
[All striked-text are things he typed, then deleted.]
